Honda CX500 – Reimagined

For this project, our goal was to reveal the elegant lines hidden beneath the original motorcycle's bulky touring-oriented bodywork. The heavy rear section was removed and replaced with our signature shortened rear frame, creating a much lighter and sportier silhouette while remaining fully road legal and homologated.

The engine was fully serviced and mechanically refreshed, but unlike many restorations, we deliberately chose not to microblast the engine cases. Instead, they were carefully cleaned while preserving their original patina, allowing the motorcycle to retain some of the character and history accumulated over decades on the road.

One of the most significant upgrades is the front end. As with many of our BMW projects, this CX500 benefits from a modern inverted fork conversion, fully homologated for Honda CX and CB models. Beyond its striking appearance, the new front suspension dramatically improves steering precision and rider confidence while transforming the motorcycle's braking capabilities.

The cockpit combines simplicity and functionality. Clip-on handlebars create a purposeful café racer riding position, while a Motogadget Motoscope Pro instrument keeps all essential information available through a clean and minimalist display. Together, these elements complete a CX500 that remains unmistakably Honda, yet feels decades ahead of the motorcycle that originally left the factory.

The Honda CX500 has earned a unique place in motorcycle history. Introduced in the late 1970s, its transverse V-twin engine, shaft drive and distinctive engineering made it one of Honda’s most unconventional motorcycles. Reliable, torquey and full of character, the CX500 has become a favorite platform for custom builders looking to blend classic styling with modern performance.

The fuel tank was stripped back to bare metal, carefully polished and then protected with a clear coat. This treatment highlights the original steel construction and gives the bike an authentic mechanical feel. To complement the tank, we designed and manufactured bespoke side covers inspired by vintage racing motorcycles, complete with circular number plate panels.

At the front, a custom LED headlight provides excellent visibility and features a distinctive black outer ring that perfectly complements the neo-retro design language. The front fender was redesigned and shortened to reduce visual mass, while the fork lowers were retained in silver to echo the aluminum elements found throughout the motorcycle. The black fork tubes add contrast and reinforce the performance-oriented stance.

The wheels received the same philosophy. Rather than chasing an overly restored appearance, they were thoroughly refurbished and detailed to look fresh while maintaining the authentic spirit of the original machine. The result is a motorcycle that feels restored, not reinvented.

The braking system was a known weakness of many motorcycles from this era. By combining the modern fork assembly with contemporary braking components, the stopping performance is brought to a completely different level. The motorcycle retains its classic soul while delivering the control expected from a much newer machine.
