A Classic Reimagined

The Honda CB500T has always been one of the most intriguing motorcycles of the 1970s. Introduced as Honda’s sporty middleweight twin, it featured a 498cc parallel-twin engine with a double overhead camshaft (DOHC) design, a sophisticated layout for its era. Delivering around 50 horsepower, it offered a lively character and impressive performance for a 500cc motorcycle, making it a favorite among riders who appreciated both engineering and style.

The beauty of this build lies in its consistency. Gold accents can be found throughout the motorcycle, from the inverted fork and Brembo brake caliper to the fuel tank pinstriping, chain, and suspension details. Every element has been carefully selected to contribute to a coherent visual identity. Combined with the polished engine, black chassis, stainless wheels, and subtle flyscreen mounted close to the headlight, the result is a motorcycle that feels complete from every angle.

The wheels were completely rebuilt using stainless steel spokes and refinished rims. Combined with modern Bridgestone Battlax BT46 tires, the transformation in handling is remarkable. Grip levels, stability, and rider confidence are all significantly improved, giving this classic Honda a level of road manners that matches its striking appearance.

One of the key decisions during this build was to retain the original exhaust system. Not only was it in excellent condition, but it also contributes enormously to the motorcycle's character and authentic 1970s sound. At the front, we also chose to keep a headlight with the same diameter as the factory unit and a traditional bulb rather than converting to LED. These choices preserve the soul of the CB500T while allowing the rest of the motorcycle to evolve.

Modern technology has been subtly incorporated throughout the build. The rear lighting system is fully integrated beneath the seat through discreet 3-in-1 LED units combining tail light, brake light, and indicators. Their hidden positioning keeps the rear section exceptionally clean while ensuring visibility and reliability that far surpass the original equipment.

The motorcycle we started with was already in remarkably good condition. Rather than completely reinventing it, our objective was to elevate the qualities that made the CB500T special in the first place. The iconic fuel tank shape was preserved, along with its timeless double gold pinstripe design, creating a perfect foundation for a modern interpretation of this Japanese classic.

To achieve a cleaner and more balanced silhouette, the entire rear section of the original frame was removed and replaced with our custom rear frame loop. Designed and manufactured specifically for this project, it allows the motorcycle to be configured as a two-seater while maintaining the elegant proportions of a true café racer. The result is a motorcycle that remains practical without compromising its visual purity.

Custom black and gold YSS shock absorbers were selected specifically for this motorcycle. Beyond their visual contribution, they dramatically improve ride quality and chassis control. Their color scheme perfectly complements the rest of the build, creating a recurring golden theme found throughout the motorcycle.

The CB500T's twin-cylinder engine has always deserved a chassis capable of matching its performance. While the engine itself was already in excellent condition and only required a thorough revision, the original braking system no longer met modern expectations. For that reason, the entire front end was upgraded, including larger brake discs and a significantly more capable braking package. The result is a motorcycle that finally delivers the stopping power its performance deserves.

The cockpit was completely redesigned around a Motogadget Tiny speedometer. Mounted discreetly and paired with a hidden LED warning light strip underneath, it creates an exceptionally clean rider environment. Mini switch controls were integrated into the handlebars, while the wiring was routed internally wherever possible to eliminate visual clutter and emphasize the motorcycle's elegant lines.

This Honda CB500T perfectly represents our philosophy at Meister Engineering: preserving what makes a classic motorcycle special while improving every aspect of the riding experience.

With its refined handling, powerful braking, modern reliability, and timeless aesthetics, this build transforms an already charismatic machine into an exceptional motorcycle that is as enjoyable to ride as it is to admire.
