BMW R100 GS
M-E 120
Some motorcycles deserve to evolve rather than be reinvented.
The rear section features our Meister Engineering homologated two-seat rear frame, built in its higher configuration to provide a more natural riding position. By increasing the distance between the seat and foot pegs, long days in the saddle become noticeably more comfortable while preserving the upright ergonomics that made the original GS famous.
Visually, we wanted a motorcycle that would feel impossible to date.
The fuel tank combines deep gloss black paint with brushed aluminium knee inserts, a subtle tribute to the iconic BMW R nineT introduced in 2014. The result is a machine that sits somewhere between classic and contemporary, effortlessly blending decades of BMW design language.
The engine and chassis components have been finished in satin black, while the wheel rims receive a gloss black finish contrasted by stainless steel spokes. The combination creates a purposeful and understated appearance that remains true to the GS spirit.
Because a motorcycle designed for travel deserves the very best suspension, the original rear shock has been replaced by a fully adjustable Öhlins unit.
Its ability to absorb imperfections while maintaining exceptional stability transforms the riding experience, whether loaded for a road trip or carving through mountain passes.
To complement the chassis, the rear brake system has been upgraded with a fully homologated CNC-machined rear brake assembly, improving both feel and precision while maintaining complete road legality.
Unlike many custom motorcycles, this project never lost sight of its primary purpose: covering long distances.
A Unit Garage front fairing has been adapted to provide meaningful wind protection while maintaining a lightweight and elegant appearance. The higher windshield significantly reduces fatigue during extended highway travel, making this motorcycle every bit as capable of crossing countries as the original GS.
The cockpit benefits from a modern instrument cluster and an LSL handlebar with a more natural sweep and rise, creating a relaxed and intuitive riding position perfectly suited to all-day adventures.
This project started with one of BMW’s finest foundations: an early 1990s BMW R80GS equipped with the legendary Paralever rear suspension and cross-spoke wheels. A machine originally designed to cross continents and tackle rough terrain with ease. From the beginning, our objective was clear: preserve everything that made the R80GS such an exceptional travel companion while bringing it into the modern era using the best components and homologated upgrades available today.
Rather than transforming its identity, we refined it.
A handcrafted rear fender and minimalist license plate holder clean up the silhouette without compromising practicality. Every line serves a purpose, creating a motorcycle that feels lighter and more elegant while remaining perfectly suited to serious mileage.
While the motorcycle embraces a classic aesthetic, numerous details bring the riding experience into the modern era.
Beneath the timeless exterior lies a completely transformed powerplant.
This R80GS received the full treatment: a 1070cc Big Bore conversion, larger cylinder heads, oversized valves, performance camshaft, Dell'Orto carburetors, upgraded charging system, oil cooler and reinforced clutch assembly.
The result is an engine that delivers significantly more torque and power while retaining the unique character and mechanical soul that only an air-cooled BMW boxer can offer.
It remains unmistakably an Airhead — simply operating at a completely different level.
To match the performance of the upgraded engine, the front end has been completely re-engineered.
A homologated upside-down fork dramatically improves chassis precision while reducing flex during aggressive riding. Braking duties are handled by a twin-disc Brembo system featuring dual four-piston calipers and Powerbrick adapters, providing stopping power that rivals many modern motorcycles.
The result is a level of confidence and control far beyond what was available when the original R80GS left the factory.
Practicality remains an essential part of the package.
This R80GS is compatible with a removable Unique Garage luggage system that can be installed or removed in minutes. The luggage is not fitted in the photos, allowing the bike's clean lines to take center stage, but the mounting system remains ready for serious touring whenever required.
This flexibility perfectly reflects the philosophy behind the build: elegant when stripped down, capable when fully equipped.
This motorcycle embodies everything we love about the BMW Airhead platform.
It keeps the soul, simplicity and long-distance capabilities of the original R80GS while benefiting from three decades of technical evolution. Lighter than modern adventure motorcycles, more engaging than contemporary alternatives and infinitely more characterful, it remains faithful to its roots while outperforming the original in virtually every category.
A true long-distance machine. A true Airhead.
Reimagined, not replaced.
