BMW R80
M-E 140
Originally built as a BMW R80RT from the late 1980s and early 1990s, this motorcycle has undergone a complete transformation from the ground up.
Every component was removed, inspected, rebuilt or refinished. The frame was fully modified, powder-coated and homologated through the Dynamic Test Center (DTC), ensuring that every structural modification is officially approved and registered. The same approach was applied to the front end, where the original suspension was replaced with a modern inverted fork conversion, dramatically improving precision, stability and braking performance — an upgrade that truly unlocks the potential of these classic air-cooled BMWs.
The front and rear fenders were designed and handcrafted specifically for this motorcycle. Beyond their visual simplicity lies a considerable amount of engineering and fabrication work.
Each fender is mounted using custom-welded stainless-steel brackets, developed to be as strong and durable as possible while remaining visually discreet and exceptionally lightweight. The objective was not only to reduce weight, but also to eliminate any unnecessary visual mass.
What makes this motorcycle so special is its versatility. It is easy to ride, comfortable enough for long journeys, fully homologated for two passengers, and inspires confidence whether cruising through the city or exploring mountain roads. It offers the character, sound and mechanical soul of a vintage motorcycle while delivering the performance, braking and reliability expected from a much more modern machine.
This build perfectly embodies our philosophy of combining restoration, engineering and customization into a single machine. A true restomod that preserves the soul of the original motorcycle while elevating every aspect of the riding experience.
The custom HATTECH exhaust system was developed specifically for this project in collaboration with our friends at Hattech, delivering a deep and characterful boxer soundtrack while perfectly complementing the bike’s clean lines. At the rear, a fully adjustable Öhlins shock absorber provides modern levels of comfort, control and confidence.
The engine was refinished in satin black with hand-brushed cooling fins, creating a timeless contrast that pairs beautifully with the elegant British Racing Green paintwork. The seat combines rich brown Alcantara with leather side panels and matching handcrafted grips, adding warmth and refinement to the overall design. Integrated Motogadget bar-end indicators, discreet lighting solutions and a powerful LED headlight complete the package without compromising the classic silhouette.
The result is a design that gives the impression that the fenders are almost floating around the wheels, creating a cleaner and more refined silhouette without compromising rigidity or functionality.
It is precisely this level of detail that defines the way we build motorcycles at Meister Engineering. Many of these elements go unnoticed at first glance, yet they are often the details that separate a good custom motorcycle from a truly exceptional one. Every bracket, every mounting point and every visible line is carefully considered to create a motorcycle that feels cohesive, elegant and effortless from every angle.
Over the years, this configuration has become one of Meister Engineering's signature builds and remains one of our most requested motorcycles. It perfectly captures what we believe a custom BMW should be:
Authentic. Elegant. Fast enough. Comfortable enough. And built to be ridden.
Quite simply, the best of both worlds.
