BMW R100 GS
M-E 64
Built to Roam, Crafted to Stand Apart
The transformation began with a complete aesthetic overhaul. The engine, gearbox and final drive were refinished in black, giving the motorcycle a more purposeful and cohesive appearance. Both wheels were fully dismantled and powder-coated in black, while the original spokes were replaced with stainless-steel units for improved durability and a cleaner, more premium finish. The result is a motorcycle that feels simultaneously rugged and refined.
Comfort and usability remained central to the project. Unlike many customs that force the rider into an aggressive riding position, this R100GS retains the relaxed ergonomics that made the original model famous. The seating position, handlebar height and overall rider triangle were intentionally preserved, ensuring effortless comfort whether riding through mountain passes or covering hundreds of kilometres in a single day.
The rear of the motorcycle follows the same philosophy. A fully machined LED taillight was integrated to provide a modern touch without disrupting the classic lines of the bike. Combined with the shortened rear section and subtle custom details throughout, the result is a motorcycle that feels timeless rather than trendy.
Starting life as a BMW R100GS, this motorcycle was transformed with a clear objective in mind: create a machine capable of crossing continents while carrying the unmistakable character of a handcrafted custom motorcycle. Rather than sacrificing comfort for style, this project focused on combining both worlds—retaining the legendary practicality of the R100GS while elevating every visual and mechanical detail.
At the front, the original headlight was replaced by a cleaner unit complemented by a handcrafted aluminium flyscreen. Bar-end indicators contribute to the minimalist appearance, while powerful auxiliary LED lights mounted on the crash bars dramatically improve visibility during night riding and adverse weather conditions. Every detail was chosen to enhance both style and functionality.
One of the defining elements of this build is the rear section. The original subframe was carefully shortened while preserving the factory luggage rack, allowing the bike to maintain its touring DNA. The slimmer rear silhouette, combined with the custom seat and compact rear lighting, gives the motorcycle a lighter and more dynamic profile without compromising its practicality for everyday use or long-distance travel.
To reinforce its adventure-touring spirit, the motorcycle was equipped with a handcrafted front windscreen and a semi-rigid side bag from Unit Garage. A dedicated smartphone mount was integrated into the cockpit, making navigation simple and practical during extended journeys. Every addition was selected with real-world travel in mind, ensuring functionality never takes a back seat to aesthetics.
Performance was improved as well, particularly in the braking department. A 320 mm oversized brake disc was installed alongside a Brembo PS master cylinder and CNC-machined brake caliper components. This setup provides significantly improved braking power and feel, delivering the confidence expected from a modern motorcycle while respecting the character of the classic air-cooled boxer platform.
This R100GS perfectly embodies the spirit of Meister Engineering: a motorcycle built for adventure, engineered for reliability, and refined with just the right amount of craftsmanship. Equally at home on a mountain road, a gravel track or a week-long journey across Europe, it proves that a true travel motorcycle can still turn heads wherever it goes.
