BMW R65 SCRAMBLER

BMW R65 Custom Meister

The vision behind this build was clear from the start: create a motorcycle that felt equally at home on winding country roads and gravel tracks while preserving the timeless personality of the original machine. Every modification was carefully chosen to enhance both aesthetics and riding enjoyment without compromising the soul of the Airhead.

At the rear, the frame was redesigned with a custom short rear loop and fitted with an extended rear fender that perfectly follows the wheel's profile. A compact seat was developed to create a lighter silhouette and emphasize the simplicity that defines great scrambler design. The result is a clean, purposeful rear end that feels both vintage and contemporary.

To improve both comfort and handling, the suspension was upgraded with premium Hagon shock absorbers. Their improved damping characteristics provide a more controlled ride while complementing the bike's rugged aesthetic. Whether cruising through the city or exploring back roads, the motorcycle delivers confidence and balance in every situation.

Mechanically, the motorcycle received a complete overhaul. The engine, gearbox, and final drive were fully serviced and refreshed to ensure reliability for years to come. As with every Meister Engineering project, the objective was not only to create a beautiful motorcycle but also one that performs as well as it looks.

The BMW R65 has long been regarded as one of the hidden gems of BMW’s legendary Airhead family. Compact, agile, and full of character, it offered a lighter and more playful riding experience than its larger boxer siblings while retaining the unmistakable charm of the flat-twin engine. This project began with a classic BMW R65 and evolved into a purpose-built scrambler inspired by the golden era of off-road motorcycles.

One of the most significant transformations was the conversion to spoked wheels, giving the bike a far more authentic scrambler stance. Combined with dual-purpose tires, the new setup dramatically changes the visual balance of the motorcycle, adding ruggedness and adventure-ready character while remaining elegant and refined.

Inspired by classic competition motorcycles, the bike received custom aluminum number-board side panels that give it a distinctive motorsport appearance. These handcrafted elements contribute to the machine's unique personality and reinforce its off-road heritage.

The fuel tank was refinished in deep gloss black, creating a striking contrast with the brushed aluminum details found throughout the build. Custom-made aluminum front and rear fenders were crafted specifically for this project, adding a handcrafted touch while maintaining the lightweight and functional philosophy of a true scrambler.

The cockpit was entirely modernized while preserving a classic appearance. A GS-style handlebar provides excellent control and a comfortable riding position, while the electrical system and switchgear were completely rebuilt. A Brembo PS master cylinder improves braking feel and precision, and a Motogadget Tiny speedometer delivers essential information through a minimalist design. Completing the package are short custom exhausts wrapped with heat-resistant tape, producing a raw mechanical soundtrack that perfectly matches the motorcycle’s purposeful and authentic character.
