Yamaha XT650
M-E 81
Built for Every Day. Inspired by the Legends.
What makes the XT so special is its honesty. There are no unnecessary electronics, no complicated systems—just a rugged chassis, a dependable four-stroke engine and a riding experience that feels connected and authentic. Decades after its introduction, it remains one of the most respected everyday adventure bikes ever built.
The rear section was entirely redesigned while retaining the original frame architecture. The bulky factory bodywork, rear fender and seat were removed and replaced with a much lighter custom setup featuring a handcrafted seat, a bespoke rear fender arrangement and a road-homologated exhaust system developed specifically for the project. The result is a cleaner silhouette that remains fully practical for everyday use.
One of the most distinctive modifications is the installation of a Yamaha DT fuel tank. This change was central to the vision behind the build. The goal was to capture the spirit and visual identity of the iconic two-stroke Yamaha DT models while benefiting from the reliability, torque and daily usability of the XT's large four-stroke engine. It creates a unique bridge between two legendary Yamaha families.
Built several years ago, this XT has proven the success of the concept. Rather than becoming a garage queen, it has been ridden almost every day by its owner and continues to serve as a true daily rider. Reliable, practical and full of character, it embodies exactly what we wanted to achieve: a motorcycle inspired by the golden era of Yamaha enduro machines, but built for modern life.
Some motorcycles are created to impress. Others are created to be ridden. This Yamaha XT project was built to do both.
Originally based on the legendary Yamaha XT 600, this motorcycle comes from a lineage of machines that helped define the dual-sport segment. Simple, reliable, lightweight and incredibly versatile, the XT earned its reputation by being able to travel almost anywhere while remaining affordable and easy to maintain. Its air-cooled single-cylinder engine delivers strong low-end torque and the kind of character that modern motorcycles often struggle to replicate.
For this project, the motorcycle was completely stripped down to the last bolt before beginning its transformation. The frame was refinished in satin black powder coating, giving the bike a cleaner and more purposeful appearance while ensuring long-term durability. Every component was carefully restored or refinished to create a machine that feels factory-built rather than modified.
The front end was redesigned with a new front fender, a classic-style number plate headlight and a matching handlebar. Combined with the gold wheels and minimalist bodywork, these details reinforce the retro off-road aesthetic while maintaining excellent ergonomics and rider comfort. The bike feels equally at home commuting through the city as it does exploring gravel roads and backcountry trails.
The finishing touch comes from the bespoke paintwork. The custom color scheme is enhanced by hand-applied gold pinstriping that subtly echoes the gold wheels, creating a visual connection between the different elements of the motorcycle.
A timeless Yamaha spirit, reimagined for every single day.
