BMW R65 – Lightweight Boxer Character

For this build, our objective was to preserve the timeless simplicity of the R65 while enhancing its proportions and road manners. The original silhouette was refined through the installation of our signature homologated rear frame loop, creating a cleaner and lighter rear section while fully retaining road legality. The result is a motorcycle that feels visually lighter and considerably more purposeful.

At the rear, a streamlined license plate holder integrates a compact BX taillight assembly, delivering a clean and discreet finish. The design removes unnecessary visual weight and contributes to the balanced café-racer-inspired stance of the motorcycle. The fuel tank retains its classic BMW shape but gains additional character through the installation of a polished Monza fuel cap. This timeless detail pays tribute to historic racing motorcycles while adding a touch of handcrafted elegance to the overall design.

Mechanically, the boxer engine was completely serviced and revised to ensure dependable performance for years to come. The powertrain retains the smooth and charismatic nature that made the R65 famous while benefiting from a thorough refresh throughout. Short Attack exhaust silencers were installed to reduce visual mass and provide a deeper, more engaging exhaust note.

Introduced in the late 1970s, the BMW R65 was designed as a more compact and agile alternative to its larger boxer-powered siblings. With its shorter wheelbase, lower weight, and responsive handling, the R65 quickly earned a reputation as one of the most enjoyable classic BMWs to ride. While often overshadowed by the larger R80 and R100 models, the R65 remains a favorite among enthusiasts seeking a balanced combination of character, reliability, and everyday usability.

The chassis was complemented by a set of black-finished wheels, providing a stronger contrast against the bright yellow fuel tank and emphasizing the motorcycle's minimalist aesthetic. To maximize grip and riding confidence, the bike was equipped with Continental ContiRoadAttack tires, offering modern levels of traction and feedback while maintaining a classic appearance.

At the front, a headlight featuring a clear optical lens modernizes the appearance without compromising the vintage spirit of the machine. Combined with the black headlight housing and fork gaiters, the front end achieves a clean and purposeful look that remains unmistakably BMW.

The cockpit was redesigned with rider engagement in mind. A lower handlebar position creates a sportier riding posture, while a Motogadget Tiny speedometer provides all essential information in a compact and elegant package. A Brembo PS brake master cylinder improves braking feel and precision, and bar-end mirrors complete the minimalist aesthetic, delivering a clean, uncluttered view that perfectly matches the spirit of this modernized classic boxer.
